Summer break is just around the corner, and I know a lot of families will be searching for ways to keep their family entertained without breaking the bank.
1. Go to the Park
When the weather is nice, a visit to the park in a great way to spend a summer day without spending money. In addition to playgrounds, and walking trails, parks are a great place to play catch, fly a kite, or blow bubbles.
2. Stargazing
Summer nights are the perfect time for setting your eyes to the sky. Choose a clear evening, find a location outside the city – where the ambient light doesn’t interfere with seeing the stars – and enjoy observing the night sky.
We suggest Eyes on the Sky as a wonderful FREE resource for learning about the stars.
3. Pack a Picnic
Have fun planning a picnic by letting family members pick out picnic friendly foods. Grab a blanket or two, fill a cooler with drinks and ice packs, and head outside to enjoy some time together.
*Pro tip – take a card or board game, and follow a “no screens” rule.
4. Make a Time Capsule
This is a project that can last all summer, with closing up your time capsule as the final task. Spend the summer collecting items to add, and plan an event for closing it up!
Check out this HOW TO for tips on creating your time capsule.
5. Start or Join a Book Club
6. Draw Forever
This is another fun activity that can go on over the entire break, here’s how it works: One person draws a small part of a picture, then passes it to the next person to continue – the process can go around again and again until the page is full.
7. Host an at Home Craft Day
Empty your drawers and cabinets of anything crafty! Invite friends to bring snacks, and have fun creating with all of your random craft supplies.
What are your favorite FREE family friendly activities? I’d love to know.
